Artist Statement.
I create art to let the emotions that I physically cannot let out, emerge. Creating art is a stress reliever and gives myself more self confidence. My work is a reflection of my childhood memories (both good and bad), and my every day issues and interests in life. I am inspired by the Surrealists and early 20th century circus sideshows. I tend to dwell with reading old books and reading about these sideshow freaks (often wishing I was one myself). I can spend anytime between an hour to a month on my work, my jewellery taking up the least amount, and painting and sculpture taking the most. I embrace the bizarre and unwanted in most of my work and like to make people think over and enjoy what I do. I believe that abnormal things should not be pushed aside in life as they usually are, and bring it more into everyday life.
I tend to use polymer clay as my main material because I prefer to work with my hands. I feel that I create a personal connection with the piece when I do this rather than using a tool like a pencil or brush. When working with the clay i can actually sort of "feel" what the piece will be when finished. This technique sometimes occurs when I paint as I tend to use my hands to blend in the paints.
